Why we value outreach?

Sex matters! Not only is it an important source of pleasure, but it is also vital for public health. At the same time, it is implicated in the reproduction of social stereotypes and inequalities, which through sex could have detrimental effects on the mental and physical well-being of individuals and communities.

We believe everyone should have the opportunity to learn about this and contribute to a healthier, more equal, and inclusive approach to sexuality. In accordance with our university’s slogan, we are committed to creating positive societal impact!

This commitment is evident in our continuous contributions to popular social science journals, blogs, podcasts, newspapers, television, theater, and festivals. Notable examples include our participation in Lowlands Science, the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), and Student Wellbeing Weeks.

Our approach to knowledge dissemination reflects our vision of valorizing research. We believe that outreach should be both serious, grounded in rigorous theory and research, and enjoyable, making learning a pleasant experience wherever possible. After all, we are a ‘sex positive’ research group!
